Stevia is the name given to the family of over 240 herbs and plants which are part of the bigger and more commonly known Sunflower family. They are only found in the sub tropical parts of North and South America.

One of the species in the family - known as sweetleaf or sugarleaf has also grown in popularity under the name Stevia. Today, stevia is cultivated throughout Asia and the Americas and has become extremely popular with the possibilities of it becoming used to enhance glucose tolerance and also as a sweetener used by diabetics and those on a low carb diet.
